MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB), is the pioneer organization of initiating family planning program in Bangladesh and currently is one of the oldest and largest organizations in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) services, and is recognized by the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) as a key partner to achieve the national targets. It was established in 1953 by some devoted and dedicated renowned personalities. FPAB is a volunteer based organization and also a Member Association (MA) of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). IPPF is a UK Registered Charity, No. 229476.

The vision of the FPAB is to envisage a world in which every woman, man and young person has access to the information and services they need. The missions of FPAB are to improve quality of lives of individuals, especially the poor and vulnerable people, by campaigning for Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) through advocacy and provision of the relevant services; defence of the rights of all young people to enjoy their sexual lives free from ill-health, unwanted pregnancy, violence and discrimination; supports the women’s right to choose to terminate her pregnancy legally and safely; efforts to eliminate Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and to eradicate HIV/AIDS; build partnership with the stakeholders to ensure relevance of its work and to achieve organizational sustainability.

FPAB has been working as the GoB’s complimentary and supplementary organization since 1953 in areas of Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH), Family Planning (FP) and Reproductive Health (RH). Currently FPAB implements its programs in 32 districts including 2 hill districts through 35 static clinics, over 900 satellite camps (per month) and with over 1,472 community-based Reproductive Health Promoters (RHPs). The RHPs work in government demarcated areas in rural communities including hard-to-reach areas, urban slums and semi-urban areas, particularly where the government does not have field-level workers.

FPAB has also programs for women empowerment, which are implemented through its 72 Family Development Centres (FDC). Since 1980, FPAB is also providing youth friendly SRHR services through its 21 youth friendly service centres (Tararmela). FPAB is also providing reproductive health services to the garments worker which is being implemented in Tongi, Gazipur district. FPAB implemented multiple projects addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV) through integrating in its different exiting programs including Community Actions for Child Protection from Violence (CACPV) project funded by EU which is being implemented in City Corporation areas of Dhaka, Khulna and Chittagong. Every year FPAB is serving directly and indirectly to about 5 million people in Bangladesh and contributing 4.5% in the national family planning program.
